Big results from Small thoughts.

One night while watching something on the Tellie, I saw an add for an Ocean Cruise to the South Pacific for 9 days and nights for just under $1000 per Person. Unto then, a sea Cruise had not entered my mind ever. Other trips certainly, just not a cruise and certainly not to the South Pacific. And in fact, we were seriously thinkng of taking another trip to South Africa, but just as visitors this time, to see a couple of places we never saw when we lived there, and to visit as many of our old friend there that we could. Unfortunately this meant a lot of travelling and driving by me (as the sole driver) in a short time and was not really, by any stretch of the imagination, to be a “holiday”. And so the thought of visiting various countries, but remaining in the same accommodation all the time, and with someone else driving, quite took my attention. And much to my surprise, my wife, once she got over this “out of left field’ idea, quite quickly became very enthusiastic about it. Even to the point of being more enthusiastic than me then.
Anyway we started to check out Travel Agents for more information and the first TA really wasn’t interested and so we went to another to get more information, but we did find out that price was not for twin Berths, but for 4- birth Cabins and if we wanted a twin berth Cabin we would have to pay more.
Anyway, in looking at all the other cruises on offer, we decided that 9 days & nights was probably a bit short anyway and so was looking for something around 2- 3 weeks, but there really wasn’t a lot in that range and the only thing that really stood out was a 28 day cruise, which was going to cost only a little more for four people that it would cost for two people, so we had further consultation with our children and so in June, we and our two daughters are going on a 28 day cruise of the South pacific. And thanks to our last –Born’s friend (see “Shop Around” blog), for less than originally being charged for two people.
All this eventuated from two things: 1. The originally small idea of taking a cruise. And 2. Not just thinking on it, but actually acting on it too. So if you don’t hear from me for a while it is because we acted on a small thought and are now enjoying a Cruise of a lifetime.

Heading North to Go to the South!

This idea of heading North to go to the South, kind of takes me back to our days in South Africa, where if we wanted to go to East London (in South Africa), we had to actually travel to the South West. Only this time, here in Australia, we have to go to the North to get to the South. For if we actually went south from Melbourne, the only place of importance between us and Antarctica is Tasmania. And although I wouldn’t actually mind going to Tasmania again, “one day” or even to fly over the Antarctic one summer, I have no intentions of going for a sea cruise there in the wintertime.
Yes! When it comes to a desired destination during our winter, my wife and two daughters and myself, have another “South” destination in mind. And that is the South Pacific. Which is actually North East of us here in Melbourne. Yes in June we are heading to the South pacific on the Dawn Princess for a 28-day Cruise. So future blogs on this site, for the immediate future at least will be connected to that event.
